                      A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED

                                                    AUTHOR:AGATHA CHRISTIE
                                                     GENRE:CRIME FICTION

AGATHA CHRISTIE IS KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE WORLD AS QUEEN OF CRIME.
A TITLE SHE RIGHTLY DESERVES.

BUT FRANKLY SAYING, 'A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED' DISSAPOINTED ME.

IT IS ONE OF THE BOOKS YOU WILL LIKE IF YOU READ IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

'MISS MARPLE' THE DETECTIVE DOESN'T GET MUCH ROLE IN THE BOOK ALTHOUGH SHE IS THE ONE WHO SOLVES THE CASE AT THE END.
THE MODE OF NARRATION IS QUITE DRY ALTHOUGH THE PLOT IS A GOOD ONE.

CLEARLY THIS IS NOT ONE OF HER BEST WORKS.

A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED IN  THE NEWSPAPER. THIS GAME IS SUPPOSED TO TAKE PLACE IN LETITIA BLACKLOCKS HOUSE
. BUT THINGS GO HORRIBLY WRONG WHEN WHAT STARTED OUT AS A MURDER GAME, SOON TURNS OUT TO BE A REAL MURDER.
THE POLICE ARRIVE AT THE SCENE BUT IS BAFFLED BY THE CASE AND FINALLY THEY TOOK MISS MARPLE'S HELP TO SOLVE THE CASE.AND SHE SOLVES It.

SO HERE IS THE BLURB

The Queen of Mystery has come to Harper Collins! Agatha Christie, the acknowledged mistress of suspense—creator of indomitable sleuth Miss Marple, meticulous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, and so many other unforgettable characters—brings her entire oeuvre of ingenious whodunits, locked room mysteries, and perplexing puzzles to Harper Paperbacks. A Murder is Announced in a small town newspaper advertisement—and Miss Marple must unravel the fiendish puzzle when a crime does indeed occur.

IT IS NOT A GREAT BOOK. BUT IF YOU ARE A DIEHARD AGATHA CHRISTIE FAN YOU MAY READ IT.
I ONLY CAME TO LIKE IT ONLY AFTER I READ IT TWO OR THREE TIMES. SO, YOU MAY TAKE YOUR OWN TIME.

RATING : 3/5.

Review of Cluny Brown by Margery Sharp

                             CLUNY BROWN

THE STORY IS QUITE DIFFERENT FROM THE USUAL ROMANTIC STORIES.SO IS THE HEROINE CLUNY BROWN.
HERE IS THE BLURB, WHICH IS PRETTY LONG.

From the dust jacket: Colonel Duff-Graham, in his innocence, fondly believed he was doing his neighbors at Friars Carmel a favor in delivering their new parlor maid. Ensconced in the back seat of his Rolls-Royce, Cluny Brown viewed her new role as a parlor maid cheerfully, if not with resignation. At least something was happening to her. It was Cluny's prime object in life to keep something happening, and something happening to Cluny usually meant trouble for everyone else concerned, as Uncle Arn, a highly respectable London plumber, could have told her waiting employers. "The trouble with young Cluny," Uncle Arn frequently pointed out, "is she don't know her place."
As though Cluny's debut as a maid were not enough for Friars Carmel to absorb, two guests arrived immediately. One was Betty Cream, lovely London debutante, currently pursued in vain by Andrew, the Carmel son and heir. The other was none other than the distinguished Adam Belinski, well-known author, lecturer, and Polish politician in exile.

With Belinski there, Cluny could not justly be held responsible for all the upheaval that shook Friars Carmel harder than any blow dealt since the Norman Conquest in 1066. Some of the time she wasn't even around.

She was walking out with Titus Wilson, village chemist like any proper parlor maid. Belinski, on the other hand, was always around until Andrew began to fear that he was a permanent fixture. This combination of circumstances went from bad to worse until it managed to drive Betty into hysteria, drive the amiable Titus into a shell, and provoke the gentlemanly Andrew to great wrath. T
he sudden solution for the havoc which Cluny and Belinski produced is not only an astonishment to all concerned but also a source of amazement to themselves. Cluny Brown is the humorous, warmly moving story of a love between a girl who didn't know her place and a man who had none.

THE STORY REALLY STARTS WHEN THE PROTAGONIST CLUNY BROWN  STARTS WORKING AT 'FRIARS CAMELS' MANSION AS A MAID.

THEN THE STORY STARTS REVOLVING AROUND  ANDREW, HIS LOVER AND THE POLISH PROFESSOR WHO HE BRINGS ALONG WITH HIM.

CLUNY TAKES A LIKING TO THE LOCAL DOCTOR, WHO AS WE CAN SEE IN THE BOOK IS A PERFECT GENTLEMAN.
AS TIME ADVANCES WE CAN SEE ALL THE LOVE STORIES FALLING IN PLACES AND CLUNY GETS READY TO MARY THE DOCTOR.
THIS IS WHERE THE PLOT STARTS TO TURN.

NO! I AM NOT GOING TO SAY THE CLIMAX. YOU CAN GET THE BOOK FROM A NEARBY  STORE AND READ OR DOWNLOAD IT ONLINE.

THE AUTHOR HAS IMPRESSED ME WITH HER CHARACTERISATION OF CLUNY BROWN.SHE IS ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE HEROINES THAT I HAVE HAD THE HONOUR TO READ.

ALSO THE BOOK IS WRITTEN FROM A GOD LIKE PERSPECTIVE i.e we can see what all the main characters are doing.
